“ very friendly and helpful. they have a variety of wonderful indian food. the prices are reasonable too and the sweets are fresh. ”
“ yummy, reasonably-priced, homemade food and drinks served on saturdays and sundays. their mango lassi and samosas are fantastic and they serve free masala chai for customers! the store itself has lots of options for indian groceries if you plan to pick any up while eating there. there's a few parks nearby, making it a perfect food choice for an afternoon picnic ”
“ Calling all Vegetarians Vegans Omnivores Jai Ho is one of my new, favorite grocery stores that allows you to shop small while not sacrificing variety and selection. Eat healthier and more *flavorfully* in 2024 with spices, lentils, legumes and produce you'll use in many Indian dishes- fresh paneer too. They carry many organic and non-GMO items. In October 2023, they expanded into a space next door, doubling their square footage. I can't wait to see what's next. They open and close late- skip the long checkout lines and stop here after work for healthy groceries, ready to go samosas or dessert (perfect for a hostess gift). ”
“ This is one my favourite places to go for Indian groceries. I am so happy that they have organic products for couple years now!! ”
“ I bought Falooda ice creams and malai kulfi ice cream bars but there are no price. That's why I took out one star. Other than that, this Indian store will be my go to whenever I crave falooda and malai kulfi. ”
“ Very good options and good pricing. The store takes credit cards, which is nice. The owners are friendly. The store is a little cramped and the location, near Safeway, is a bit sketchy. ”
“ TL;DR - convenient location off of Fillmore and next to Safeway, with tons of free parking. But the plaza is a little sketchy. Smaller and possibly pricier than Indian stores in other parts of the Bay, but significantly cheaper than big, mainstream grocery stores, especially for produce and spices. They have all the trusted, popular Indian brands. The younger staff members are kind and helpful. Highly recommend! I am Indian and I'm originally from the South Bay, so I know a thing or two about Indian grocery stores. Typically they have unbeatable prices for fresh produce and spices and customer service ranges from mediocre to terrible. Now let's talk about Jai Ho. This grocery store is conveniently located off of Fillmore St where you'll find lots of other shops and restaurants. The plaza it's in is not glamorous, but there's a large parking lot with tons of free parking (yay!). It's also in the same plaza as Safeway, so I recommend going here first, then finishing off your grocery shopping at Safeway. I've been here twice. The store itself is smaller than the stores I'm used to in San Jose/Santa Clara, but this is understandable because it's SF. Consequently, their selection, refrigerated section, and produce section are smaller. I haven't shopped their refrigerated section, but was able to get some essentials from their produce section for very affordable prices that will beat Safeway. They also have the most trusted, popular Indian brands for most things. Also, you are MISSING OUT on crazy low prices if you're buying your spices from anywhere other than an Indian grocery store. Yes, Indian stores won't have every spice you need, but if you're buying spices typically found in Indian cuisine at Safeway, or any other big, mainstream grocery store - just stop. For example, I bought a 7oz. bag of garam masala for $3.99 at Jai Ho. Whereas a 1.8oz bottle of garam masala at Safeway or Target will set you back $6! If you're thinking, "I would never use 7 whopping ounces of garam masala...", just seal it, throw it in the fridge, and it will last you years! Prices might have gone up recently due to inflation and there's not as much competition in SF, so if prices seem higher compared to stores in other parts of the Bay Area, don't be surprised. In SF, we are spoiled with great customer service everywhere we go. But consider lowering your expectations when going to an Indian grocery store run by Indian daadas/ajjas (grandpas) and daadees/ajjis (grandmas). These small businesses are family-run. Culturally, good customer service is unknown to older generations. I'm not condoning rudeness, but simply encouraging open-mindedness! In my experience here, the younger staff have been wonderful. During my last visit on a Friday evening, a young gentleman noticed my confusion and immediately offered assistance. So nice! And the young lady who rang me up was kind too. The store was well-staffed, so you'll have plenty of help. Overall, I will be coming to Jai Ho again and again. Highly recommend! ”
“ If you happened to be a spiced tea lover like myself, you ought to find an Indian grocery store such as Jai Ho. But here's a unique challenge. You might try to find Jai Ho since it's behind ordinary businesses of Fillmore. Now that I found it myself, perhaps it's next to Popeyes chicken. I'm so new to this international grocery store, so I might as well browse around for several minutes until I found the best seller. Still a small space though, with narrow walkways. Curry spices; just had to wait until I fully learn how to cook. The last aisle I checked was the tea/coffee section, home to the most authentic chai teas I could fall in love with, ranging from masala to cardamom. Still low quality, and there's never a karak chai in sight. Whatever looks good was a must-have. As a traveler, it's imperative to experience new foods and cultures. But it's very important to know what you purchase that's absolutely suitable to your interest. More importantly, be modest and kind to the family owned grocery store. ”
“ Nice little indian supermarket across from Safeway and next to Popeye's Fried Chicken. I've been looking for good mithai in the bay area that as good as the one I've had at Shiney's Sweets & Restaurant in Annandale Virginia. The selections are very limited here and its already pre boxed inside the refrigerator for around $6.99 for most. (Not buffet style serving and weight by the pound). But the gulab jamun I bought was really good. Not overly wet and not too sweet. I will come back and try the rasmalai next time. Oh, since this is also an indian grocery store, they also carries other indian dry goods too. ”
“ This place looks authentic and had customers who looked like ethnic Indians. The tv was playing an Indian soap opera. There's free parking in what used to be a marginal neighborhood. I wouldn't come here late at night, but seemed ok in the daytime. The selection of ingredients was impressive. My son found an online video of a lady making chicken korma and had a list of ingredients I don't have. I've never seen fresh curry leaves before. There are also so many varieties of jasmine rice. Interesting store. ”
